Live Gigs Are The Best!

For me nothing can beat the feeling of seeing your favourite band/singer live and in person. Seeing them in the flesh singing the songs you love is something really special.

Don’t get me wrong I love listening to CD’s and downloads but seriously nothing will ever feel better or more exciting than going to a live gig. From the start of the day the excitement builds.

What am I going to wear? How early should I start queuing,? What merch should I buy? Will they sing my favourite song? Will they premiere any new materiel? It’s all so exhilarating.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to see some amazing singer’s and band’s live. I’ve witnessed Cheryl at a sold-out O2 Arena in London, Girls Aloud at the same venue, Joe McElderry at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Ward Thomas at The Globe in Cardiff, two X Factor gigs at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Union J at the same venue and also at The Glee Club in Cardiff, I have seen Little Mix, JLS and more at the Pontypridd’s Big Weekend Festival in the park. Every single concert I have been to holds a special place in my heart and I always love booking new events.

Tonight I am going to see Ward Thomas for the second time in Cardiff and I am so excited. They are amazing live and their harmonies are spine tingling.  And I am also going to see Lady Antebellum in Birmingham for the first time ever this October.

For me there is nothing more exciting or entertaining than going to a live gig.

Shania Twain is the Reason I am a Country Music Fan

I am so, so happy today because Shania Twain is officially back. The fact that she premiered her brilliant new single ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ during her incredible Stagecoach Festival set last night has made my week.

She is without doubt the reason I am a huge country music fan today. I was introduced to her music when I was around 8-years-old which is about the time she released her last album ‘Up!’, by my older brothers.

Since then I have been attached to the genre and now support a host of country stars including the likes of Ward Thomas,  Lady Antebellum, Kevin McGuire, Sarah Darling, and Una Healy.  But Shania is the only reason I got into country in the first place and I am forever thankful to her for that.

I think it’s the same for a lot of people in my age group as she made the genre accessible and fun to young people, with super catchy pop crossover hits such as ‘I’m Gonna Getcha Good’ and ‘Ka-Ching!’. And now her new single ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ will introduce a whole host of young kids the genre.

I am over the moon she is officially back and you can just tell she has fallen back in love with making music and performing live again. I just hope she announces a world tour soon which includes a London or preferably Cardiff date as it would be a dream to see her live.

Shania Twain is a true icon of music and she has inspired so many country and pop singers around the world and opened the genre to fans from everywhere to fall in love with country. She is just incredible.

I am so excited for her new album to drop this September. Shania Twain is back and sounding better than ever.

Sarah Darling’s Video For ‘Halley’s Comet’ Is Magical

Since I saw US country singer Sarah Darling live last year at The Globe in Cardiff where she was supporting the sublime Ward Thomas, I have totally fallen in love with her super sweet vocals.

Her new album ‘Dream Country’ will be released on the 10th of February and I cannot wait to hear all the tracks. Her voice is just so soothing and melodically pleasing.

And I am totally in awe of the official music video for the stunning single ‘Halley’s Comet’. The fact that the clip is animated gives it a real magical feeling. It’s super sweet and the track is very inspirational.

I’m hoping she will announce a full UK tour soon as I would love to see her live again.

My Top 4 Albums of 2016

With Christmas fast approaching and the New Year just around the corner I felt now would be a good time to countdown my top 4 albums that were released in 2016.

The past year has seen some absolute gems released from the likes of Little Mix, Olly Murs, Rolling Stones, and Emili Sande, but my personal favourite three albums of the year are as follows;

4: DNCE-Self Titled.

After hearing tracks ‘Cake By The Ocean’, and ‘Toothbrush’ I was really excited for Joe Jonas’ rock/pop group DNCE to release their debut album, and I was not disappointed. The self-titled LP is full of fantastic tracks and is a great feel good album.

3: Charles Kelley-Driver.

I am a huge fan of Lady Antebellum and I am in love with lead singer Charles Kelley’s debut solo album ‘Driver’. It has a slightly different vibe to Lady A’s music and it’s not quite as country, but it is so good.

2: Nick Jonas-Last Year Was Complicated.

I am in love with Nick Jonas’ album from this year. The LP is like a diary put to song and it is so personal and deep. I really think it deserved to be nominated for a Grammy award. Not only are Nick’s vocals insane but the depth of the songs are on another level.

1: Ward Thomas-Cartwheels.

My favourite album of 2016 is without doubt Ward Thomas’ record breaking number 1 release ‘Cartwheels’. The duo became the first ever British country act to score a number 1 LP in the official UK charts and it is no surprise that the record did so well. The girls’ vocal harmonies are off the scale and the songs are so beautifully written. It’s an easy pick for my number 1 album of 2016.

A Ward Thomas and Carrie Underwood Collab Would be Awesome

I absolutely adore Ward Thomas’ music and I think their vocal harmonies are off the scale. Their voices just blend so perfectly together and it sounds so authentically Nashville that you forget that the girls are actually from Hampshire.

And because their vocals sound so authentically country I think they could collaborate with some amazing American country music stars, and one of those who I feel would be a perfect fit is the very talented Carrie Underwood.

I truly think that Catherine and Lizzy’s voices would sound amazing with Carrie’s. Plus they are all signed to the Sony music label so it shouldn’t be that hard of a task to set up a collab, especially as they are all fans of each-others music.

Back in October when Ward Thomas became the first ever British country act to top the UK album chart with their stunning ‘Cartwheels’ LP, Carrie Underwood was quick to congratulate the twin sisters on their incredible feat via a Facebook message. The sisters are also big fans of Underwood’s.

I really think that this could be a piece of amazing music history that would sound sublime. I’m hoping that they will all work together soon.

Loving Ward Thomas’ ‘Cartwheels’ Video

I am really enjoying the brand new music video from Ward Thomas. The clip for their new single ‘Cartwheels’ is simply stunning.

The concept is so simple yet tells a wonderful story, and Catherine and Lizzy’s vocals sound as incredible as ever.

The new video was shot around the city centre of London and shows the girls singing the track while they sit on stools in an all white room, and the camera pangs back and forth between Ward Thomas and the ballet dancers that feature in the stunning clip.

I really love how stripped back the concept is and it is really visually beautiful.

The ‘Cartwheels’ music video is probably my favourite from the girls so far!

Excited to See Ward Thomas Again Next Year

Today I booked my tickets to see the sensationally talented Ward Thomas live next year in Cardiff!

This will be my second time seeing the girls, Catherine and Lizzy, live and I cannot wait.

The concert which is part of their 2017 Cartwheels Tour will take place on May 17th and I am so excited to see them performing live again and to hear their stunning vocal harmonies.

Ward Thomas really are the most talented band and I have totally fallen in love with their stunning vocals.

I am so happy that they announced this brand new tour as I absolutely loved seeing them live in October!

I’m also hoping that they may also perform a couple of new tracks during the 2017 tour.

Excited For Sarah Darling’s New Music Video

I am so excited that the beautiful and super talented Sarah Darling is currently shooting the official music video for her stunning single ‘Where Cowboys Ride’.

The track is taken from Sarah’s upcoming album ‘Dream Country’ and I heard it for the first time when I saw her live at The Globe in Cardiff last month where she was supporting the insanely talented Ward Thomas.

It was the first time I had ever heard of Sarah Darling, and I instantly fell in love with her sweet vocals and likeable personalty, and ‘Where Cowboys Ride’ is absolutely stunning.

I am so excited for the music video which she is filming in the beautiful state of Wyoming, the photos she has posted on Twitter are gorgeous and it looks like the official video will be breathtaking.

In Love With Ward Thomas’ ‘Fly Away’ Cover

I am so in love with Ward Thomas’ cover of Lenny Kravitz’s huge worldwide hit ‘Fly Away’.

Catherine and Lizzy’s stunning vocals give you goosebumps and make your spine tingle as they harmonise splendidly on the soaring chorus!

I really don’t think I have ever loved a cover as much as I do this, it’s literally perfect.

I have always quite liked the song anyway but when Ward Thomas sing it, it takes it to a whole new level, it is simply sublime.

I’m so glad they released it as a b-side to their single version of the fantastic ‘Cartwheels’, as I cannot stop playing it.

Ward Thomas’ ‘Safe’ Should Be Used For An NSPCC Advert

I am in love with ward Thomas’ voices and their songs are so inspirational and sound so beautiful.

And in particular their song ‘Safe’ which is on their record breaking number 1 album ‘Cartwheels’, is very inspiring and I personally think it would be the perfect soundtrack for an NSPCC advert.

There are some very poignant lyrics including “Someone stole your youth and tried to expose your sweet innocence all too soon”, and another one “So you don’t have to be quiet And you don’t have to feel ashamed”.

And there are some other poignant lines that are perfect for the charity, including “You’re not to blame”, and “You are not what happened to you”.

The full lyrics for the stunning track are:

Someone took your truth and lied to it
Someone stole your youth
And tried to expose your sweet innocence

All too soon

Like the shadow of a thief
Breaking in every night
The scene of sharp relief
Every time you close your eyes
You still see it, it follows you

So you don’t have to be quiet
And you don’t have to feel ashamed
This is not your war
To fight and you’re not to blame
‘Cause I know you’ve been stumbling
Searching for a place to hide and heal
Somewhere you can rest,
Forgive yourself and feel

You’re safe here
You’re safe here

Someone took my rights
And treated me wrong
Someone stole my light,
But I am still strong
In silent ways,
They don’t see

So we don’t have to be quiet
And we don’t have to feel ashamed
This is not our war
To fight and we’re not to blame
‘Cause I know you’ve been stumbling
Searching for a place to hide and heal
Somewhere you can rest,
Forgive yourself and feel

You’re safe here
You’re safe here
You’re safe here
You’re safe here

You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you

You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you

You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you
You are not what happened to you

So you don’t have to be quiet
And you don’t have to feel ashamed
This is not your war
To fight and you’re not to blame
‘Cause I know you’ve been stumbling
Searching for a place to hide and heal
Somewhere you can rest,
Forgive yourself and feel

You’re safe here
You’re safe here
You’re safe here
You’re safe here

For me this would be a perfect, poignant and though provoking soundtrack to be used on a new NSPCC campaign.
